Although important to the Inca, and later to the Spaniards, Pisco's claim to fame today is their grape brandy that bears its name. Its most interesting attractions, however, are a flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines and and the rich concentration of sea lions and sea birds on the Ballestas Islands, about a half hour away by speedboat.
The reason why so many animals live here is because of the Humboldt Current that arrives to Peru's beaches at this point, and cools the sea waters. It also brings plenty of sea food, which makes it one of the most abundant fishing areas in the world.
