Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers visitors one of the best ski and snowboard experiences in the world. Known for our steep terrain, consistent fall line, deep, light powder and endless backcountry, Jackson Hole also allows beginners and intermediates to excel at their own pace on a variety of groomed runs and open bowls.
Looking up at the dramatic Teton Range from the airport, it's not immediately obvious what parts of that range make up the Resort. As your eyes start to focus, you can pick out the zigzag traverses across Rendezvous Mountain, and possibly see a miniature tram car on its way to Rendezvous Bowl. Known as "The Big One", Jackson Hole Mountain Resort lives up to the legend at first sight.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is made up of
two mountains:
Apres Vous Mountain: With over 2100 vertical feet of groomers and glades, "AV" is known as our intermediate mountain. Wide open groomers like Werner and Moran allow for fast laps on the high speed Apres Vous Quad. The slightly more adventurous might find themselves in gladed areas like Saratoga Bowl or Moran Woods. Halfpipe and park riders will find their preferred terrain secluded between Werner and Hanna. The base of Apres Vous Mountain flattens into our gentle beginner slopes, accessed off of Eagles Rest and Teewinot chairlifts.
Rendezvous Mountain: This is where you will find the terrain that Jackson Hole is famous for: chutes, bowls, couloirs and glades make up most of the terrain. There are advanced intermediate groomers and cruisers as well, runs like Rendezvous Trail, Grand and Amphitheater. The tram travels 4,139 vertical feet above the valley floor to 10,450 feet (3,185 meters) above sea level. From the top of the Jackson Hole Tram, you can enjoy some of the best consistent fall line skiing and riding in the world. The 8-Passenger Bridger Gondolaâ„¢ offers quick access to a great deal of the mountain from its summit, just below the headwall.
Every ski town loves a storm, and every skier loves snow - but there are some places in ski country where storms are accompanied by a buzz so intense that everyone in town is swept up by the vibration. Jackson Hole embraces big storms-not with a grin, but with an "I'm-going-to-squeeze-the-life-out-of-you" bear hug. Maybe it's because it's one of the steepest resorts on the continent, and with over 4,100 vertical feet a storm here can really change your day. Maybe it's just because everyone's had one too many at the Moose, but then that wouldn't really set Jackson apart from other ski destinations.
Whatever the reason, everyone in town feels the vibe when a grand storm nails the Grand Tetons
Jackson Hole was the site of a famous fur trappers' rendezvous in the 1830's, but was mostly empty again until the late 1800's, when the first ranchers and homesteaders arrived. They quickly found that guiding wealthy European and American hunters and tourists was a better living than raising cattle in this harsh environment, and the hospitality industry in Jackson Hole was born. Tourists would eventually discover the visual riches of nearby Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, bringing them to Jackson in droves, at least in the summer.
In 1956, a Californian named Paul McCollister purchased 166 acres at the base of Rendezvous Mountain. McCollister envisioned a world-class resort, and constructed a 63-passenger aerial tram that rose over 4,000 feet as its foundation. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort now has a well-deserved reputation as one of the toughest proving grounds in American skiing - and locals have an equally deserved reputation as some of the hardest-riding skiers anywhere.
Jackson Hole also has amazing luxuries available to those who seek them. From beautiful private homes available for short-term rental to timeshares at the Four Seasons, or a room at the ultra-exclusive Amangani, Jackson's lodging options have come a long ways from the trapper-rendezvous tent camps that (literally) put Jackson Hole on the map.
There are a host of activities to choose from, but a unique option is the sleigh ride tour of the 25,000-acre National Elk Refuge. If you can't get enough skiing, a visit to nearby Grand Targhee Resort, is a great side trip.
Everything in Jackson Hole seems to be on a grand scale, from the size of the Grand Tetons, to the irrepressible energy of the locals, to the luxuries that make a vacation so pleasantly different from every day life. Jackson sets a high standard for many things, including skiing. So whether there's a storm in the forecast or not, give us a call and let us make your trip to Jackson Hole effortless, so you can relax and enjoy.
