MONTSERRAT'S recently opened $1.2 million air terminal signals how far the island has come since the 1997 Soufriere Hills volcanic eruptions. Officials indicated the airport's new runway should be in operation by May. The government awarded a two-year contract to Winair to operate scheduled flights between Montserrat and Antigua or St. Maarten on 19-seater Twin Otter aircraft. Montserrat's original W. H. Bramble airport was abandoned in June '97 following elevated levels of volcanic activity in the area. Since that time, transport in and out of Montserrat has been by ferry and helicopter.
Since the volcano has decided to increase the size of Montserrat we are providing limited travel packages. However, as things change we will update our site with additional information.
Currently, no major airlines provide service to Montserrat.
Winair now offers four daily roundtrips from Antigua to Montserrat's new Gerald's Airport.
WINAIR'S FLIGHTS currently offer the only way to reach Montserrat from Antigua or nearby St. Maarten. Both the ferry and helicopter services from Antigua to Montserrat were discontinued once Winair started service last summer.
