Plans have been announced to build the "Las Vegas strip of Asia" in Macau. On Friday, representatives from the People's Republic of China's Special Administrative Region of Macau will announce an agreement with Las Vegas Sands, Inc (LVSI) for the development in the Cotai region of Macau.
The "Cotai Strip" will feature canals, lavish gardens and parks, "exquisite waterfalls and lush green landscaping" - and a large number of new hotels. LVSI already runs Sands Macao, billed as the first western-operated, million square foot casino and entertainment complex in Macau.
The follow-up will be The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel Casino, hailed as the first "Vegas-style" mega-destination casino resort in the region. The development will reportedly form the "anchor" to the planned Cotai Strip project.
The agreement will officially announced in Macao on Friday, in what is being described as "one of the biggest tourism and hospitality press conferences ever".
