American (Amerika) Samoa is a group of Polynesian islands in the South Pacific five volcanic islands with rugged peaks and limited coastal plains, two coral atolls (Rose Island, Swains Island) and the comparative area is slightly larger than Washington, DC.
Fourteen degrees below the equator, it is the United States' southern-most territory. It is known as the heart of Polynesia. If you drew a triangle from Hawaii, New Zealand and Tahiti you would find Samoa in the middle or one-half of the way from Hawaii to New Zealand.
