There are six main districts of Israel, known in Hebrew as mehozot.
Jerusalem District* District capital:
JerusalemSurely there is no place on earth as holy as Jerusalem. Site of Abraham's sacrifice, King David's triumph, Jesus' death and Mohammed's ascension to heaven; the emotional impact is stunning. The Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher are among the countless reminders that Jerusalem has been conquered and reconquered in the name of God for over three millennia. See Bethlehem, the Dead Sea or Masada, where 967 Jews committed suicide rather than submit to Rome.
Ain-Karim*(Ein Karem )
"Spring of the Vineyard"; is a historic mountain village southwest of Jerusalem, presently a neighborhood in the outskirts of the modern city, within the Jerusalem District.

According to legend, Mary drank from this spring to satisfy her thirst before ascending the hill to meet Elizabeth.

The Dead Sea is the lowest exposed point on the Earth's surface. It is on the border between the West Bank, Israel, and Jordan on the Jordan Rift Valley. This endorheic body of water is the deepest hypersaline lake in the world.
