Montgomery
The Alabama capital has been the setting for numerous historically significant moments throughout history. The city was selected as the first capital of the Confederate States of America in 1861 and became one of the most important sites during the Civil Rights Movement a century later, serving as the setting of the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955-56 and the Selma to Montgomery protest marches in 1965.

Alabama's only eight-mile-long barrier island with 850-foot public fishing pier. The Dauphin Island Bridge, a three-and-a-half-mile bridge leads to the island from the mainland. The Mobile Bay Ferry has daily cruise to the island operating 12 hours of service from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Departures start at 8 a.m. from Dauphin Island with crossings to and from Fort Morgan near Gulf Shores. Each crossing takes about 30 minutes.
