The World Arrow North America Arrow Mexico Arrow Pacific Coast Arrow Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo
The lovely, unpretentious fishing village of 'Zihuat' curves around a protected bay, lined with golden beaches. When you've had enough sunning, wander the market stalls laden with Mexican arts and crafts, try a delicious tuba drink in the nearby coconut plantations, or make the quick trip to superb resorts of neighboring Ixtapa.

Airport code is ZIH. This is really 2 different cities, Ixtapa and Zihuatenejo. A setup where one can enjoy the differences between modern day Mexico and the charm of old Mexico. And best of all there is only a 7 klick distance between them.

Ixtapa is probably the most modern vacation spot on the west coast. The Mexican government set out to repeat the success of Cancun on this once coconut plantation and while Ixtapa is not as large nor does it have the number of hotels available they did a good job of building a vacation spot. Set against the mountains it is a visually attractive area. With 2 good golf courses, tennis, deep sea fishing and diving, there is plenty to do.

Zihuatanejo lets you enjoy the culture of Mexico. The city probably dates back to Pre-Columbian times. The name means "Place of Women". Horse back riding is available by the hour, cost is around 20.00usd.

ATTENTION GUITAR AFICIONADOS. Zihuatanejo will host the first of what it hopes will be an annual event -- the Zihuatanejo Guitar Festival -- April 18 to 25. The guitar festival will feature some of the world's most renowned musicians specializing in classical, blues, jazz and flamenco guitar, including Jenny Kerr, Phil "Philbillie" Milner, Jimi Mamou, Nick Vigarino and Steve Denyes, among others. The event will take place in seven main venues, including hotels, restaurants, bars and clubs around Zihuatanejo Bay, including a kick-off concert at Las Gatas beach. The event will include a free Guitar Fair, a jam session for local musicians, on April 25 on Zihuatanejo's main plaza. Ticket prices start at about $4.50. For more information, visit guitarfest.
